Book Review: Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn

"Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend" by Katie Finn was a very cute read. I loved getting to know Gemma Tucker. Gemma's boyfriend Teddy broke up with her in target and destroyed all of her summer plans with him. Gemma finds out that her mom and step dad will be away for the summer so they want to ship her off to the Hampton's to be with her dad. The Hampton's is the last place that Gemma wants to go  because of memories from years ago.

When Gemma meets Josh on the train to the Hampton's, she thinks that maybe the Hampton's won't be so bad. Then Gemma finds out that Josh is Hallie's brother, the best friend that she once had but than destroyed her life. Hallie is the reason that Gemma wants to stay away from the Hampton's. Back when Gemma was eleven years old and her parents were going through a rough patch,  and Gemma's dad was dating Hallie's mom. When Hallie mentioned Gemma's parents getting a divorce Gemma didn't believe her. Then Gemma saw the proof for herself and decided that if she could make Hallie's life miserable than may they would move away and her dad and Hallie's mom would break up.

Josh mistakes Gemma's name for Sophie because that was what was written on the coffee cup that Gemma was carrying, before Gemma had a chance to correct him on her name she found out who he really was. Gemma spent the next few days pretending to be Sophie as she tried really hard to become friends with Hallie again because she wanted to try to make up for their past. Accident after accident keeps happening and Gemma keeps trucking along.

I thought "Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend" was really cute. I liked Gemma right away. I feel like she was very open from the beginning and showed how much she really regretted her past mistakes and that she wanted to make up for what she had done. She wanted to make things better even if she couldn't change the past. The one thing that I didn't like is this novel is extremely predictable. I knew what was going on and how things were going to end before I ever got to the second or third chapter and it turned out that I was completely right about everything. I have to say that I wasn't too surprised. I think the characters were great. Gemma was definitely the best. I really liked her.

The plot was well thought out and I think it was good, just too predictable. I wish their was a little more mystery to the story. I was hoping that things would have ended up in a little bit more complicated of a mess but I am excited to see where book two will end up. Finn caught my , so I am waiting to see if she can hold it. It you don't mind some teenage drama, check this book out. I thought it was cute and a little funny.
