I am not totally sure where to start with "Extraction" by Stephanie Diaz. I was extremely disappointed with this book. A huge reason is because I felt like a lot of it was copy catting other books. I know a lot of stories are going to be similar and similar story lines but this one just felt way too familiar. I feel like there is was too many things that are like the Hunger Games, Divergent, Ender's Game, and a few more. It was like there were many ideas taken from each book and shoved into another one. Even the characters felt pretty empty.
It is hard to have an open mind about a book when you feel like it has been copied off of another book. I just had a really hard time reading this one. I felt like it dragged on and on. Clementine the main character goes through a series of tests just like Divergent to see if she is a chosen one to go to the core. There the characters get all of their flaws taken away like the Uglies series. I feel like there were a lot of ideas that were taken from other books and mashed into one book. I had a really hard time getting into this one.
When blurbs raise high expectations for their books, it makes it a whole lot harder for the reader to not also have these high expectations. I think the story line could have been a lot better. I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this book because there are plenty of good reviews out there. I just have a hard time really getting into something that I have already read but by a different author. I think Diaz could be a great writer, I just want to see more originality.
