What is Happening?!

I have read a few books lately that I was less than thrilled about. I was having the hardest time because I really wanted to like these books but I just couldn't. I was either bored or disappointed in the story. I couldn't believe how bad these stories seem to be. I feels as if books are being produced just to produce them not because they are of good quality. I want to read books that I enjoy and think they are worthwhile to read. So imagine my disappointment when I spent all of this time on a book that turned out to be terrible.

I can understand debut writers not necessarily having the hang of everything right out of the gate but when you are an author that has several other works that have done fabulous I would think that you could say you have experience. I found myself to be very disappointed. It isn't one specific author it is several. I am just curious about what is happening. I would think that everyone still wants good quality stories. Why would we settle for anything less than that?

Part of me wonders if maybe it is me and I am just expecting too much but I feel like books should be of good substance and I don't feel like that is what we, as readers, are getting. I understand that not every novel is going to blow me away but it would be nice if they tried. It would be great if I could find several good things about books rather than just having all fluff.

Am I the only one that feels this way? The other thing is a lot of copy cat stories are appearing. Is anyone else finding that some stories are extremely similar? I hat to be the person that is pointing fingers and picking on people, because that is not what I am trying to do. In a way I am trying to vent my frustration and found out if anyone feels the same or if I am only one out of many readers. I want to read something that has a storyline and great characters. I am looking for more than just fluff. Someone can offer a pretty package but it doesn't mean what is inside is pretty also. Same goes to having an ugly package doesn't mean that what is on the inside is ugly. I am looking for something that is good on the inside not just the outside.

Does anyone have suggestions or maybe words of wisdom to share? I feel like I can't be the only one that has noticed this. I can't be the only one that has read a lot of 3 star books or lower lately. I love to hear people's thoughts and input so I look forward to what others have to say on the matter.
