To be completely honest I was loving "The Here and Now" by Ann Brashares until I got somewhere towards the end and it went all downhill from there. I feel like their were so many black holes that this story went into. Prenna is a 14 year old girl from the future with a group on people trying to escape an apocalyptic timeline. The problem with this community of people traveling to the past is the fact that they don't want to change anything in the past, actually they are strictly told they can't change anything or their will be trouble. They are just there to live during a different time period so they don't have to suffer a terrible death.
The puzzle pieces of the stories fall into place way too easily. It seems like there is no effort to this mystery and in all honesty I am a little disappointed with that fact. I would have loved to see a whole lot more mystery to the story. I think there was a great idea behind this story but it wasn't executed in the proper way.
Another thing I was really disappointed in was the fact that Ethan was so focused on sex. I don't feel like that added anything else to the story. One half of the story was the mystery of the illness and the death of people and then the over half of the story was about Ethan wanting to have sex and Prenna not giving in because she didn't want to get Ethan sick with any future diseases. I feel like this was a bit pointless and unneeded in the story. When it comes down to it, I feel like this book is okay but not the best thing I have ever read.
