Dazzled by Books

"Wondrous Strange" by Lesley Livingston was such a fun novel to me. I mainly listened to the story on audiobook but I also have the paperback so a few times I was falling along with the story. Kelley is a bit naive but I learned to really like her. She is 17 and working in Manhattan. She is striving to be an actress. The book starts out informing her that she in no longer the understudy for "A Midsummer's Night Dream" and she will be playing the lead Titania. Now Kelley thinks she finally has her big break.

Then we have Sonny Flannery. He is the other point of view in "Wondrous Strange." Sonny is a changeling. Changelings are mortal children that were taken by faeries as babies and are raised in the fairy world plus they are granted immortality. Sonny finds out that there is something different about Kelley and he is determined to figure out what it is.

I really liked the characters in this book. I thought Kelley was a little annoying at first but she grew on me by the end of the story. Sonny is a great character. He wants to do what is best for people even though he doesn't love his life. He wishes he got to live the life that was stolen from him yet he doesn't want to sound ungrateful for the life he has.

I thought the writing was decent. I can see a lot of room for improvement but it wasn't bad for the first novel in the beginning of the series. I look forward to the other two books by Livingston. As far as the audiobook. It was a little weird that Lesley Livingston was reading her own story. I didn't get as much enthusiasm as I do with most audiobooks. Part me wonders if it is because the author is reader her own books. I do with the audiobook was a bit more animated.
