"Jesse's Girl" by Miranda Kenneally is a sweet romantic comedy. Maya has a passion for playing the guitar and performing. When Maya gets kicked out of her own band she becomes depressed. When her principal suggests that she hang out with his nephew for career day, Maya is a little skeptic of it first. Jesse Scott is a famous country music star, however Maya has never really liked country music. When Maya finally agrees to hang out with Jesse, she finds out that he is more depressed than she is. As they get to know each other things start turning around and they both really start opening up.
This was such a cute story. Nowadays there really isn't a whole lot of romantic comedies in the YA industry. I think it brought a bright ray of sunshine to the mix. I really liked how cheery this book is. I think Kenneally really shows the importance of family in this novel. Maya has such a wonderful family. I think it is great to finally see a functioning family in a young adult book. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
