Book Review: Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

Sarah J Maas does it again. She brings a fantastic book to her readers. Who knew that finally taking the chance to pick up "Throne of Glass" after succumbing to peer pressure (yes I am looking at you Iris), that I would love this book series. "Throne of Glass" was everything I could have hoped for. "Crown of Midnight" was even better, but "Heir of Fire?!?" Can you say book coma people? It took a bit of time to get over this one and of course I still had to wait for "Queen of Shadows" to come out. (Yeah I know this review is a little late). This book definitely gave me the feels. Not only do we have Dorian and Chaol, but now we are adding Rowan to mix. ROWAN!

I will be completely honest...the first half of the book I hated Rowan. He was annoying and I hated how he would treat Celaena. He doesn't know her and he definitely doesn't know what she has been through. What gives him the right to be all judgey towards her. The more I got to know Rowan, the more I liked him. I still didn't like how he treated Celaena but I did begin to feel more sympathetic towards him.

Celaena has a lot of growing up to do still. She has a hard time trusting anyone. I do like the fact that even though Rowan treats her like he does, she never gives in to him. Instead she stubbornly just gets better at what he wants, almost like his rudeness fuels her fire. I love that about her. She doesn't let Rowan's prickliness get the best of her instead she gets better and better and doesn't give up. I really like this part of Celaena because it shows how awesome of a main character she is.

I think the hardest part for me in this book is looking at Rowan as Celaena's new love interest. I really like her with Chaol. I really want her to still be with Chaol. I have a feeling that I am not going to get my way. How am I supposed to handle this new guy trying to take Celaena's heart?

At this point the big revelation of the last book is no secret. The reader definitely knows who Celaena is. I personally knew well in advance. To learn more about Celaena and her family was really neat to me. Like she has a horrible aunt that really just wants to control her. Celaena's mom had been hiding her from her aunt Maeve, Queen of the Fey for quite some time and now Celaena is getting ready to meet her and get to know her.

I feel like Maas did a great job with her character development in "Heir of Fire." The author gets to learn a whole new side of the characters we already love and now we get to be introduced to several new characters. Celaena grows in a whole new way in "Heir of Fire." Now that she can access her magic since she is no longer stuck in the King's barriers, there is so much for her to learn. I am looking forward to book four because I dearly want to see what Celaena has prepared for the King. Maas just keeps getting better and better.

I also listened to the audiobook while keeping up with the hardcover. Elizabeth Evans nails her narration again. I am always pleased to listen to Elizabeth Evans read the story. I think she does an amazing job. I enjoy listening to the audiobook as I drive to work. It makes the time fly on the drive.
