Dazzled by Books

"Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" by Kim Barker is a memoir of her time in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I was expecting to get in depth about the War that our country has been going through for so long but this book really just falls completely flat. The book is completely shallow. I really don't feel like I got to truly know what was going on. Instead it focused more on Barker herself rather than what Barker was experiencing.

The author went to Afghanistan and Pakistan without a clue as to what she was getting herself into. The story focuses more on he arrogant journalist who is learning how to do her job as a foreign correspondent. I couldn't put my heart into reading this story because it was not written as good as it could have been.

I am interested to see how they make it in to a movie. I think if the book was written more as the experience and how things really were in Afghanistan and Pakistan, that would be something that I would want to read. The writer seems to be very naive and by the end of the book it really doesn't seem to improve at all. I know one cold make the comment that the story is funny and she doesn't a great job creating a comic relief, but I still don't feel like that is enough. Last but not least, the book just seems to drag. It never really picked up at all. I feel like "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" could have been written much better.
