“The Great Hunt” by Wendy Higgins was amazing. I thought it started out slow first but I was definitely surprised at how much I loved this book. Princess Aerity grew up believing that she could pick her husband just like her father picked her mother to marry. Love is a grand thing to get married for right? When a terrible beast plagues the land, Princess Aerity loses this privilege. Now whichever hunter kills the beast will win the Princess’ hand in marriage.
Princess Aerity is a very strong princess. She gives up everything she believes in and everything she wants in order to save her kingdom. No longer can she have the freedom of love. I really loved Princess Aerity. I thought she had a lot of spunk for a Princess. She showed plenty of strength, grace, and compassion to the hunters. She cared for their well-being as they were hunting for the monster.
I know that this story is based on the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Singing Bone,” but I can seem some resemblance and other things are completely different. It could be loosely based off of it. I am wondering how book two will go. Higgins definitely has me hooked. This was my first experience with her writing and now I can’t wait to dive into her other books. I love how Higgins writes. I feel like the writing is just so magical across the page.
