Dazzled by Books

"Air Awakens" by Elise Kova was enjoyable. It is the first book in a series by Elise Kova. "Air Awakens" follow Vhalla, who is a library apprentice whose research saved the life of the Crown Prince. This Prince has a fire affinity and he was able to detect Vhalla's magic right away. Vhalla hates sorcerers and she is very against magic. To learn that she should be practicing magic, Vhalla begins several states of denial. The Prince doesn't give up because he wants her to learn and to become who she was always meant to be.

I really like how Vhalla grows throughout this story. I think that is my favorite part in the whole book. Vhalla is the only known air affinity sorcerer. All the other air affinities have been killed, so her affinity has become extremely rare.

I also really liked how Vhalla and Prince Aldrik got along. These two characters have major chemistry and the work really well together when they let themselves. There are other times that the tension is high that it was hard not to scream at them to get over themselves.

I think the hardest part of this book is that the pace is so slow. Vhalla is a hard character to learn to love. There are many things that I like about her and there are many things that I hated. As she grew into the person that she became at the end of the story was the one I really began to like. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book. I am expecting a lot to happen.
