Dazzled by Books

"The Forgetting" by Sharon Cameron is my new favorite book. This book is gorgeous in its shiny purple cover. I was surprised with how much I really liked it.

"What isn't written, isn't remembered. Even your crimes."

Isn't that the ultimate clean slate? What would you do if you had a clean slate?

Nadia lives in the city of Canaan. This city is surrounded by white stone walls and no one is supposed to get out. Every twelve years the city descends into a bloody chaos of the forgetting. This is a day of no remorse, people can get away with anything because people of this city aren't suppose to remember. The only information that is remembered is what is written.

What I liked:

Where do I start? First off, this is my first Sharon Cameron book. I was not disappointed at all. The writing is fabulous. I was sucked in right away. Cameron did a fantastic job with this book.

Characters:

Nadia is able to remember. Something about her doesn't let the forgetting take her memories. The chaos from the last forgetting is stuck in Nadia's head. She doesn't want to live through another forgetting. Nadia starts a journey with Gray. Together they try to find the truth as to why the forgetting happens and how to fix it.

Nadia is very tight-lipped. She doesn't open up easily. Her family takes her for granted. Gray befriends her, but she doesn't know if she can trust him. The last thing Nadia wants is to put her family in danger. I think Nadia is a great main character. She grows immensely in this book. Nadia is a great heroine. I really liked her character.

Gray is the friend that Nadia didn't expect. One day Gray catches Nadia climbing over the wall. He approaches Nadia, to have her take him over the wall. Gray is a bit sketchy and Nadia can sense it but she can't put her finger on it as to why. This boy is charming. Nadia doesn't want to be sucked into his charm like everyone else. Gray is such a great character and his chemistry with Nadia is fantastic.

Relationships:

The relationships in "The Forgetting" are so important. These relationships make up who Nadia is. She cares so much about her sisters and mother. It is her love for them that she makes the choices that she does. It isn't just Nadia's relationships that are important, it is each character's connection to each other.

Romance:

Yes! There is romance. It is sweet and building. I love how it develops. The romance does not happen over night but it is there. One just has to have patience and they will be surprised. That is one of the best things in this book. No insta-love.

The Wrap:

Finally, we are at the end of this review. I am anxious to get my hands on the companion novel. This is a book that should be on everyone's TBR. It is amazing and I can't recommend it enough.
