A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

Review:

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess was so good. I was really excited to dive into this book. Henrietta is a fantastic character. I love that she is smart and strong. The fact that Henrietta stands up for what is right makes her a great character. I love that about her. Henrietta stands out during a time that women are supposed to hold their tongues. She is so headstrong and I loved her for it. Strong female characters make some great books. Henrietta should be added to this list of strong female characters.

Setting:

I loved the fact that Cluess created an amazing fantasy element to Victorian England. It is creative and fun. I really like the historical elements that this setting brings. I was a bit disappointed that the world building wasn't that great. I am hoping there will be improvement for book two.

Potential:

I think A Shadow Bright and Burning had a lot of potential and I don't think it was fully reached. The story sounded really great and it had a great start. I feel like the story slowly went downhill. I am looking forward to seeing how things improve with book two. A Shadow Bright and Burning is a great start and I think it should be given a chance.
