Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas

Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas is amazing. I was so excited to read this book and it definitely lived up to this expectation. This story started out super strong. Freya is a scientist. She is on the lowest totem pole to become the next ruler. I love that the fantasy part of the book was also mixed with a murder mystery. This story was extremely enjoyable.

Freya despises the wastefulness of court life. She would rather keep to herself and her science, because of this Freya ends up being spared by accident. For the King's birthday celebration there was a massive poisoning that killed almost all of the royal court. Due to this the line of succession ends up leading to Freya being the new Queen. Since Freya ends up being the new Queen she ends up being declared the number one suspect but it is Freya's goal to find the true mass murder.

This story really focuses on the politics of court and all the challenges that are brought to her from her court. Freya is the focus on how she not only handles these obstacles but she does it while trying to figure out who killed the rest of the court. I really liked Freya's character. She started out as a scared little girl and grew into a fierce young woman. I really enjoyed watching her grow up. Freya lacked a lot of self confidence but as the story continued she really grew into her own to become a good ruler.

I really enjoyed the sweet love interest in this book. It made me extremely happy that this wasn't the focus of the book but who doesn't love a little bit of romance. This is definitely a great book and I hope everyone gets a chance to read it. This is definitely one of my favorites so far this year.
