How far would you go for happily ever after?

But after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game—and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she’d pledged. Review:

Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber is phenomenal. It was more then I could have ever asked for. I am positive I loved it just as much as the Carval Series if not more. Jacks is one of the main characters in this one and I was so glad to have him back. No, I am not sharing Jacks as a book boyfriend so back off.

Once Upon a Broken Heart is the first installment of a new spin off. This story has a fairytale like feel to it as you read through the book and I really enjoyed this aesthetic and vibe. It fit the world and the characters so well. As the synopsis stated, how far would you go for your happily ever after? I really liked that the tagline set you up for the journey you are about to embark on with Evangeline Fox.

Our protagonist is Evangeline Fox, a young woman that grew up with her dad. She was in love with his curiosity shop, where she could escape real life. Not everything is a fairytale for Evangeline. The love of Evangeline's life is marrying another and it just happens to be her stepsister. Evangeline feels like something is up because Luc dumped her out of the blue and then wanted to rush a marriage to her stepsister. Fox becomes so desperate to stop this wedding that she goes to one of the Legendary fates to seek help. She is sure that Jacks, the Prince of Hearts will be able to help her. She is willing to pay any price for his assistance but little does she know what she is truly promising.

I loved these characters so much. I was so happy to have Jacks back in my life and I fell just as hard for Evangeline Fox. I felt so much sympathy and empathy for her through out the story. I wanted to give her a hug and tell her that things will turn out okay. She is definitely a naïve character but I think in a big part that is because her dad protected her so much from the world. She thinks love is some magical thing that is going to fix her life. Fox had such a determination to keep going and never get up. I loved how her interactions with Jacks were. If I could choose a fictional character to be my best friend it would definitely be Evangeline Fox.

Jacks! What can I say about Jacks that you don't already know. We first met Jacks in the Caraval trilogy but now we are getting to know him a lot more. (This makes me super happy). Jacks is your typical anti-hero. He doesn't want to be the good guy but he is by default. He is the bad guy that you want to love because you know deep down he is a good one. I don't think Jacks gets as much love as he should in this universe. He loves to play tricks and get into people's heads. Jacks is always about make deals with people to get what he wants and the deals he makes with Evangeline....well I guess you will need to read the book. Once Upon A Broken Heart added so much to Jacks character. It showed the reader a whole new side to him and let us really get more in depth look at Jacks. Even though I know that Jacks has something to gain by the situation with Evangeline, I can't help but cheer them on because I want them to end up together. I think they will be perfect for each other.

Once Upon A Broken Heart was such a good book. I had a hard time putting it down because I didn't want to stop reading. I don't know have any clue how I am going to wait a whole year for the next book. I swear Garber is just out to destroy my heart. Maybe the goal is to give it to Jacks. The world building is amazing. The language is beautifully written. This is a true fairytale that leaps off the page. I really enjoyed the folklore style imagery that we received and I just want to dive into this beautiful book all over again. We couldn't have asked for a better book. It is so perfect. Don't let me forget that we get some cameos from some of our favorite characters from Caraval. I hope we get some more in book two.

PLEASE GIVE ME BOOK TWO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I am pretty sure I will go mad without it. If you want a beautiful story and some amazing characters, please I beg of you, check out Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber.
