The Adventures of Cooking: Taste the Heat

One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef. One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she can’t afford to taste. Colby can’t wait to leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. Disillusioned by his past, he knows he should be focusing on finding the perfect mother for his daughter. But when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason can’t say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

I am going to start off now letting everyone know that I am not that fond of cooking. I like to bake but not cook. Desserts are fun and easy but actual cooking dinner is not my thing. I have cooked twice with my boyfriend and I’ve found that cooking can be fun and quite colorful. In its own way cooking can be an art. Now I see my chefs like to decorate their plates at fancy restaurants. I’ve tried some food that I wouldn’t have thought about eating previously. Peppers are not something that I grew up eating so it was a little foreign to me, but I recently tried cooking with them and the food turned out delicious.

I think that cooking can be an art because of all the colors you cook with and just like mixing paints in art class, when you mix different colored foods and spices, you create something new and dishes can change colors. Look at Corn…it starts out white and turns yellow when you boil it. I may not cook very often, but when I do it is normally a fun experience.

What is it like to cook with a boyfriend or girlfriend? I laughed when the guy I am dating wanted to cook with me. Since then we have cooked together twice. First time was his dish, second time it was mine. Third time…well we will see if that ever happens. For someone that has been cooking for years wanted to cook with me, of course I was nervous. Honestly who would want to cook with me…I feel like I am a disaster in the kitchen. I can make a mouth watering alfredo sauce but that is about it. I know how to follow a recipe to a tee, so I am not too worried about how the food will turn out; the hardest part is just to get me in the kitchen to cook. More poor kids one day will probably eat more take out than anything else. No worries, I am kidding they will be provided for and eat healthy food.

I would have to say that cooking with peppers became a very fun and interesting experience for me. I don’t have a sense of smell, so I am lacking one of the main senses that people use in the kitchen. I try to use my sense of taste as much as I can but I am told that since I don’t have a sense of smell some foods may taste different. Back to my pepper story, sorry I am getting off track. I was learning how to cut peppers and I’ve actually been shown how to do this twice now and I still don’t know if I would do it correctly. Asher* began to teach me. I would have to say that working in the kitchen with a guy was definitely a new thing for me. I mean I’ve watched my dad cook in the kitchen before but actually cooking along side with someone you aren’t related too can definitely be an interesting process. For one you don’t know how they will react to being in a confined space and everyone has their own way of doing things.

Cooking with Asher was a lot of fun. We divided up tasks to make sure that things got done on time, and the food turned out amazing each time. I would have to say that I enjoy cooking with Asher a lot. He makes things fun in the kitchen. I definitely look forward to more opportunities to cook with him. I would have to say that if you can get along in the kitchen with the person you are dating, then definitely cook with each other. I know that it was and experience that I enjoyed.

I agree, it's an experience, cooking with a loved one--Sometimes it's a matched made in heaven, other times one or the other of you will end up barking, "Get out of MY kitchen!" LOL But if you have fun with it, it makes for a unique, fun, hands on date :)

Thanks SO much for helping spread the Taste the Heat love, girl! You rock
